The 2012 TNZ Open was another resounding success with just under 500 competitors assembling at the Avondale Sports Gymnasium in Auckland on the 17th & 18th March for two days of exciting Taekwondo competition. Each year this event gets bigger. There were many highlights this year and some great performances from the athletes in both Kyorugi and Poomsae.
The black belt divisions were contested under the electronic Daedo scoring system which was great for our upcoming athletes to be exposed to. The Poomsae competition was judged by the participants who had just completed the WTF Poomsae Judge seminar held in Auckland the week before. This was conducted under the watchful eye of Grandmaster Ki Young Jeong, the WTF’s Chief Poomsae Judge Instructor. Another bonus for our athletes!
Teams from Australia, New Caledonia, Samoa, Tonga and India ensured that our own athletes were exposed to international level competition which also trickled down to the colour belt divisions in all age groups. The annual TNZ Open has become a very popular event and don’t miss next year’s one. This is an ideal event for developing your athletes and ensuring they have exposure to international competition in their own back-yard!
TNZ would like to thank all of the hard-working officials and volunteers who gave up their valuable time to make sure this event was another success. Also a special thanks to those teams that came from overseas. It was a great mixture of athletes and levels of ability which everyone who participated truly benefitted from.
