| The 3rd
Oceania Taekwondo Championships were a resounding success. Hosted by
Taekwondo New Zealand for the second consecutive time, the event was
held at the YMCA Stadium in Auckland on the 6th & 7th December.
The
championships drew over 150 competitors from 10 countries and also
featured Poomsae competition and the debut of electronic body
protectors in New Zealand. 14 WTF International Referees and 3 WTF
International Poomsae Judges officiated at the event.
On
the Friday before the Championships, the Oceania Taekwondo Union held
it’s general assembly and also ran Referee, Coaching and Poomsae
seminars for member national associations.
The
two day championship featured great Taekwondo action in both the
Sparring and Poomsae events with the sparring competition being run in
accordance with the senior and youth Olympic weight divisions.
There
was a vast improvement in the level of competition and skills from the
2006 championships with many of the national teams taking home medals.
Taekwondo
New Zealand and the Oceania Taekwondo Union gratefully acknowledge the
sponsorship and support of Samsung, Adidas, Pub Charities, Hana Tour, Jols, Burger
Fuel, and Ottogi.
