About Taekwondo Training Programmes

NATIONAL TEAM/ELITE ATHLETE TRAINING

Part of the mission of TNZ is to facilitate athletes developing from national competition success to performing with distinction at international events.

Wherever possible TNZ selects athletes several months prior to competition to enable them to focus on peaking for the event.  The National Team Coach will monitor progress as well as taking training sessions with the athletes.

Training for this level of competition focuses on many areas, including;

Physical fitness, strength and speed - athletes undertake individual programmes to ensure they peak for major tournaments.

Technical development - through seminars and training camps ensuring techniques and footwork are correct, and the ever important repetition drills until techniques and combinations become second nature.

Development of 'ringcraft'- no matter how much training an athlete undertakes, the experience gained when in competition can't be duplicated.  Top performers fight in three or four domestic tournaments and several internationals per year.

REFEREE TRAINING & CERTIFICATION

Referee Training Rotorua

This is a staged 4 level certificate programme with the option of undertaking an international referee
certificate course when the international referee requirements are fulfilled.

Class 4 refereeing qualification requires completion of a seminar and theory and practical examinations.

After gaining 4th class qualification, each graduation requires the completion of further training,
practical experience and a theory examination.

At TNZ tournaments, the Tournament Director will log officials ring time towards their practical experience requirements.

For members currently refereeing at tournaments, their refereeing history will be accepted as prior learning experience, and upon completing a course or seminar and undertaking a
theory examination, they will be given the appropriate level refereeing certificate.

Referee certificates are valid for 2 years, after which holders have to renew or upgrade.
