Oceania Taekwondo Union Poomsae Judge Seminar

2 Jan. 2012 Posted by Garry Carpenter

The first ever Oceania Poomsae Certification Seminar was held in New Zealand on Saturday 19 November at the Hutt Valley Dojang in Wellington. The seminar was run under the auspices of the WTF Oceania Taekwondo Union and as a joint venture with Taekwondo New Zealand.

25 Black Belts from TNZ member organisations travelled from all over New Zealand to participate in the seminar. Master Dave Warren, Head Poomsae Coach for Sport Taekwondo Australia and a WTF International Poomsae Judge was the presenter. Master Warren’s son Josh, who is an experienced international Australian Poomsae Team member and Champion, also helped out with teaching and running the seminar.
The purpose of this particular seminar was to start to develop those who are interested in judging at Poomsae competitions.  The focus was on the 4th level qualification for judging – Taegeuk Il Jang to Taegeuk O Jang. This is the first of a number of initiatives that TNZ will be running over the coming months to help raise the standard of Poomsae Judging in New Zealand. The seminar was very well run and informative with all participants gaining valuable in-sight and up-skilling.
A big thanks to Greg O’Brien for his behind the scenes support and help in bringing this seminar to New Zealand and to Taekwondo New Zealand and the Oceania Taekwondo Union for facilitating the seminars to help further develop Poomsae Competition in both New Zealand and the Oceania region. TNZ would also like to thank Master Vijay Chhika for hosting the seminar at his Dojang and for providing catering during the day for the participants.
Lastly, a big thanks to Master Dave Warren and Josh for a very professional and informative seminar.
